Check your sitemap

Enter a site. We read its robots.txt for Sitemap: lines, fall back to /sitemap.xml, and describe what is there.

What this reports

  • Whether each file is a URL list or a sitemap index, its HTTP status, size and whether it is gzipped.
  • How many URLs it lists, how many carry a lastmod, and whether the first 50 are on the same host.
  • For an index: the number of child sitemaps and the status of the first five.

What it does not measure

  • Whether the URLs listed return 200, are indexable, or are indexed.
  • Whether any search engine or AI system reads the sitemap.
  • Sitemaps on another host than the one you entered: they are listed but not requested.

Files over 2 MB are not downloaded, up to three sitemaps are checked, and a result of robots.txt may be up to five minutes old.

The free scan also checks whether your sitemap is reachable and referenced in robots.txt, together with crawler access and structured data.
